FAQs: All You Need to Know About Requesting

Much to my surprise, I frequently get a lot of questions regarding my artwork -- most of which is regarding how to go about getting a specific drawing done, do I take requests/commissions, etc etc. Since I'd like to have all of this information handy for everyone that's interested in this for the future, (it gets exhausting answering these over and over!) please take a look at the following list of answers before posting any questions or requests my way. Thanks!

Requesting

Can I request a drawing?

Of course! If Request Status at the top says 'Open' on my most current journal, than I'll likely accept your request. But, even if it says 'Closed', I'll likely write down the request in my physical notebook, and if the mood strikes me, I might work on it. Just don't expect it to be until that status returns to 'Open' again.

How do I request a drawing?

Preferably, send me a note over deviantArt if you can. If you don't have an account, email at kaleeko@hotmail.com with the details of your request. (Remember to include who you are in your email so I don't get confused.) Details include EVERYTHING I should know about what you're requesting.

Do NOT send me a request without the information I need - descriptions, inspirations, etc. Make sure your descriptions are very thorough, and that you include some sort of blurb about the character's personality. Also, send any other requests in regards to the drawing -- backgrounds, subject sizes, mood; reference another drawing of mine you've liked if you prefer. It helps me know what exactly you're looking for.

What can I request?

I'll take requests of pretty much any type, but if you've taken a look at my gallery, then you'll know I do pretty much just dragons and people -- other animals are alright on occasion, but keep in mind I'm not that good at them. But, I prefer to do mostly Pern-related art.

If you were sent to this page as a referral from one of my MUSH/MOO games, then I ask that you only request Pern art, and only for characters from those games that I play on. (Harpers Tale and PernWorld)

I also have a few rules regarding my drawings that are rarely negotiable.

What rules are those?

Firstly, a max 2-3 subjects per drawing; if a third, it must be small. (Firelizard, for example.) This mainly has to do with how I draw, and the size of my scanner. But, it also has to do with the fact that I simply get overwhelmed trying to fit any more than that in.

Secondly, the character you request art for, human or dragon, must be an active, played character on that game. If I look at +history or activecheck and see no activity, I'll automatically cross the request off my list. This is NOT negotiable.

If it's a drawing for a retired character that you want for sentimental reasons, and have proof that the character was well loved in their time and that you'll treasure the piece, I have no problems doing that -- I just might not make it as much of a priority.

Thirdly, as I do not ask for payment for my drawings, I do expect a few things in return for my work into your drawing. First, I appreciate any thank you and compliment I get for my art. Please don't skip past these courtesies because you think I've heard them enough -- it's a sure way for me not to do another drawing for you. Also, if you play on a Pern Game with one of my characters, the only payment I require is RP. Take a look at the ';payment' section for more info.

You've already done many drawings for me, is it okay to request again?

If I've completed one drawing for you, I'll likely do a second, so long as they're a couple of weeks apart. If I've done two or more for you, it likely means I like you enough that I'd do a hundred drawings for you if I got the chance -- so please, no matter what, just ask! I LOVE doing artwork for those who really want it!

After Requesting

How do I know you've accepted my request?

If you didn't make the request over IM/page to first-hand hear my acceptance, then keep an eye on my To-Do List, and if you see your drawing pop up there, then I'll be doing it at some point.

I requested a drawing, but I don't see it on the list. What's up?

I have various reasons for turning down requests. The best way to find out why is it kindly ask me, I'll be happy to explain, and maybe negotiate if you reallyreallyreally want a drawing! Also, if you've requested a drawing in the past, saw it on the list, but then it disappeared, it's likely because I had to cut down on my workload, and the ones that got cut were from people who don't regularly check up on my artwork. (I appreciate those that stop by my site frequently, and I can tell when you do.)

When should I expect the drawing to be done?

Some drawings I may get done rather quickly -- within a day or two of the request. Some, a week or two after. Some may take much longer than that, depending on how many pieces I have to do, how busy I am, how inspired I am for the drawing, or even just how stressed I am at the time.

All I can ask for is patience!

I asked for a drawing a while ago, and it's still not finished. What should I do?

If you're curious, just ask! But, please, be nice. I reserve the right to remove any requests from sour-pusses!

I do keep all my drawings in mind, but sometimes, I just loose enthusiasm, or just can't find it in me to finish a drawing at some point. If you want to garauntee that your character will catch my eye, make sure your request is full of awesome goodness for me to relish in so when I start thinking about your drawing, the process comes easier and faster.

Don't be persistent in asking about the drawing, though. I may not have a job or school around to stress me out, but the main reason for that is that I'm so easily stressed out, I had to take it easy for a while! So, sometimes it takes me a while because I feel overwhelmed with things going on in my life. I assure you, I NEVER forget about a drawing request, sometimes it just takes me a while to get over myself and start working on it. If you don't believe me, ask the numerous people who have waited for months for a drawing and still got it!

But, in general, I take a long time to get things done. I'm a procrastinator. Don't expect anything quickly.

How will I know when the drawing is done?

I'll contact you in some way, unless I know you regularly check on my page and will see the drawing in my gallery. But, usually, whenever I finish a drawing, I immediately contact the person whom it was for.

Payment

How do I pay you for my drawing?

A heartfelt thank you, a hot cup of tea, and a really big smile. Squeals are good, too. I like squeals!

Seriously, though, if you play on a game with me, the payment is simply RolePlay, and, if possible, to foster some sort of relationship with one my characters, any sort of relationship. Friendship, stiffness, enemies, whatever.

If you do artwork as well, I also accept a trade as "payment". (I love trades in general!) Heck, I'll even accept stick-figure art of my characters, so long as it's humorous! I love all art! Even if you don't think it's beautiful, I do. :)

I will not put a price on my art, though. I will refuse money for it.

If I paid you for your drawing, would I get it any quicker?

No. In fact, money tends to scare me off of a drawing, because the stress of living up to a monetary value will eat my will to work on the drawing. I'd highly appreciate if money wasn't offered as an incentive. I value other things a lot more.

I really love your artwork, and you've done so many pieces for me, I want to pay you for them!

I appreciate the thought. I really, really do. It means a lot to me! But, I refuse to put a value on my art, since there are many people out there who do much better art for free, and in fairness I won't cheat anyone out of money. Besides, I do artwork for the happiness it brings others in their reaction, and for the fulfillment and skill building it brings me. If I wanted to make money, I'd go get a job.

Seriously, I don't care WTF you say, I'm giving you money!

Fine. XD I've posted up how to donate to my paypal account, and you are welcome to make an ANONYMOUS donation of whatever value you feel is appropriate. But, I do not want to know where the money came from, so don't mention it at any point.

The only way I will accept money is through paypal, so you may have to create an account. Go to [link] and click on the 'Send Money' link. You can then enter my email address, which is kaleeko@hotmail.com , and enter whatever amount you feel is necessary. Don't worry about paying in Canadian Dollars, all my accounts are still in the US. All money donated will go towards keeping my paid account and keeping my dog fed and happy, and eventually towards school.

Will you take money to do a more complex drawing for me?

As I've explained, both complicated pictures and money scare me to death. However, if you take away the latter and have the patience of a hawk, I'll consider doing a complex piece for you -- but this is very, very, very rare. Send me the info, and when I'm feeling in the masochistic mood, I'll work on it. But, these pieces may not be listed on the To Do List my site, because they will be such long-term projects that they may never even meet the stages of completion.

If you have any other questions, feel free to bug me via note or IM or whatever. I'm very easy going, so I'm willing to discuss out any problems you have with my rules and etc. If you want a drawing though, please, don't hesitate! Don't convince yourself not to send me a request because I won't take it, or for any other reasons. It's rare that I don't! Thank you for your support as always!
